Safe Biker has an excellent first time pass rate of 97% and are very proud of this.

For people who wish to start at the beginning and work up to the practical bike test we are the training group for you.

No matter what training course you choose whether all or part is completed on an automatic or a geared bike the choice is yours. SAFE BIKER instructors have a wealth of biking knowledge to get you on the road and complete whatever training course you require from complete novice to advanced.

It just doesn't matter if you have no experience or wish to improve your riding skills up to advanced level on your own bike, or if you wish to pass the motorcycle test at 125cc or 500cc levels. You may wish to take advantage of a refresher course on one of our bikes - we can tailor make a course to suit you.

At SAFE BIKER we feel that your first steps into motorcycling are the most important and so would encourage you to visit us at our office where you can have a coffee and an informal chat about any of the training courses you wish to take.

CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)

To obtain a CBT certificate you have to complete the practical CBT course. Please remember it is a course and not a test. To get booked in all you have to do is pay a deposit which can be done over the phone by credit/debit card. The balance of the fee for the course will be payable when you attend.

CBT is a basic training course to get you to a basic standard of riding competency. Once completed a 16 year old provisional licence holder can ride a 50cc moped (auto or geared) on the road, provided full sized L plates are fitted. For someone aged 17 or over, who has a motorcycle entitlement on his/her provisional licence, the CBT also allows them to ride unaccompanied on a machine up to 125cc, again provided L plates are fitted.

Once you have your CBT we will encourage you to complete further training to improve your riding skills up to practical test standard, so that you are capable and ready to pass your motorcycle test first time. You can do any part or all the practical training on one of our bikes or on your own bike as long as it is insured.

The course starts at 9.30am and finishes before 4.30pm. If you do not finish the course in one day then all that would be required is for you to go home sleep on it and return another day to finish anything that isn't completed. Don't forget you have time for lunch so bring sandwiches and cakes, we have a soft drinks machine and hot beverages - we will also eat anything you.

Theory Test

Before you can take a Practical Test you must pass a Motorcycle Theory Test first.

There are two publications you need to study called The Official Theory Test For Motorcyclists and The Highway Code.

The test is computer based multiple choice questions and you answer the questions by touching the computer screen against the correct answer. The test is taken at a DSA Test Centre near to where you live and you will get pass or fail certificate at the time of taking the test. There is also a hazard perception test.

We have a computer equipped with a Theory Test programme that you can spend as much time practicing on free of charge before you take your Theory Test.

Training towards your practical test on a 125cc geared or automatic bike is available. The 3 hour lessons will improve your ride from what you have already learnt on the CBT course and you will now begin to fine-tune your ride with the guidance and advice from one of our qualified instructors.

The number of lessons needed to get up to the practical test standard is entirely up to you but it normally takes between 3 - 5 days including the CBT course.

For people who are 21 years or older and for those people who wish to get back to riding larger bikes but who, for one reason or another, did not pass the practical test, you may wish to complete a further bike training after the CBT course using a bike of at least 500cc which must develop 47 BHP or more automatic or geared it does not matter. About 3 - 5 days and you should be ready to take the practical test and pass it.

Direct / Accelerated Access (Supercourse)

Our Direct/Accelerated Access course is for those who want to take a condensed training course over a period of four and a half days, or we will arrange the course to suit you.

General Information

If you do not complete a Direct Access course and you have successfully completed the 35 minute pursuit test ride on a 125cc with a DSA examiner you will be eligible to ride any motorcycle you wish provided the bike reaches certain power to weight criteria. A good rule of thumb is have a restictor kit fitted, by an authorised mechanic, to your pride and joy and it will restrict the power output to 33bhp. It really does not matter about the size of the engine; it is the power output that is restricted not the cc's. This restriction is for 2 years, at the end of the 2 year restriction you can have the restrictor kit removed from your bike and then you can ride any bike with any BHP output.
